Part One contains information about your library, including population served and details about services and resources in each location.
Library Details: Click Edit to update your library details. If this is your first time completing the Assessment, Library Details will be populated with your library's data from the IMLS Public Libraries Survey, FY 2013. If you have previously completed the Assessment, Library Details will contain the information submitted on your last Assessment.
Library Locations: This section collects details about each of your library locations, including hours open, number of public access computers, and bandwidth speeds at each location. If this is your first time completing the Assessment, the Library Locations will be populated with your library's locations data from the IMLS Public Libraries Survey, FY 2013. If you have previously completed the Assessment, the Library Locations will contain the information submitted on your last Assessment.
Instructions for calculating the bandwidth speeds are below.
To edit the required details for each location, click the Edit button. The page can be saved with partial information, but all fields for each location will need to be completed before you can submit Part One of the Assessment. Libraries with more than 10 locations may download a spreadsheet to submit to Edge Support rather than entering each location's information individually. Before submitting a spreadsheet or for more information, please contact Edge Support.
If new locations have been added, click the "Add Location" button. If a location is no longer open to the public, click Edit next to the closed location. Then click Close Location at the top of the Edit screen. The page will update automatically and return to the main screen. The location will now be noted as (Closed).
Once any new locations have been added, closed locations have been marked as closed, and the required information has been entered for all open locations, click the verification checkbox to move on to Part 2 of the assessment. You will not be able to submit Part One until all of the fields have been completed. You do not need to complete the entire section at once. Your answers will be saved automatically and you can return at any time.
GATHERING BANDWIDTH INFORMATION
To complete the bandwidth information in Part One, you will need the download/upload speeds included in the contract with your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If your Internet is provided by your city or county, contact the appropriate government department for this information.
You will also run a speed test at each library location and record the results. For accurate results, run the speed test from a public computer before the location opens or after it has closed.
From a public computer in the library, go to http://speedtest.net.
Click Begin Test.
The test will begin and will take approximately 20 seconds to complete.
